This will be my second year at GenCon. Last year we played a ton of RPG games. This year, we only have two that we really want to do. We generally know when the one is (pathfinder special Sat night) and a demon hunter game. Other than that, we are up to trying new things. We will have two 16 year old boys with us as well. Any suggestions on other events to try (and not true dungeon, did that last year). Any suggestions would be great.
There is an insane amount of stuff to do. What are your and their interests? Other than RPGs what types of things do you enjoy?
I really enjoy the megagames. My friends convinced me to try one back in 2017 and now it's one of the reasons I go back every year.
"Megagames combine the physical mechanics of board games with the fluid emergent gameplay of role‐playing games at large player counts (40‐80+ players)."
The most popular megagame is Watch the Skies - where teams are running countries of the world with their own motives when aliens first arrive (also a player team). But there are 11 different megagames being run this year with all different settings. The emergent narratives of players/teams that all interact to form a macro narrative is my favorite part, especially since decisions are generally based on imperfect information!

If you like LARPs, the Megagame Coalition is partnering with the Game Theatre (a LARP organization) to put on a megagame version of their LARP called Dragon Thrones at Gen Con. While I'm not intimate with the details, that may be a hybrid between a megagame and a LARP.
